Océane Jacob
Océane Jacob (b.1996) is a French artist with roots in Hong Kong and a distinguished alumna of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her practice showcases the marvelous yet fragile ecosystems of the aquatic world. She portrays the vulnerability of Nature and explores the significant ecological and sociopolitical challenges it faces in this modern world.
Through public installations, sculptures, and paintings, Océane’s work invites viewers to a thoughtful conversation about art and environmental consciousness. She often works with recycled materials, embracing their historical and cultural importance as well as their past functions to create thought-provoking sustainable art. Her commitment further resonates in her paintings as she reveals the hidden allure of the ocean’s colorful, admirable, diminutive inhabitants.
Océane’s practice unfolds as a poetic discourse between art and environmental awareness. With exhibitions spanning Asia, Australasia, Europe, and the United States, she is also known for her public sculptures in Europe and Asia. Her work was featured at “Sculpture by the Sea” in both Perth and Sydney in 2023 and will be showcased in 2024 at the Archipel Art Contemporain in Saint-Gervais, France.
